Experiences of depression and anxiety are common. Reduced motivation, low energy, low self-esteem and sadness often present with depression. Anxiety is often accompanied with feelings of tension, recurring intrusive thoughts and avoidance of certain situations. Counselling can be beneficial for people struggling with depression and anxiety.
Adverse life experiences can be traumatic and result in changes to how the brain functions. Trauma can disrupt sleep and increase anxiety, leaving you feeling irritable, angry and hypervigilant. Intrusive memories, thoughts and physical symptoms (headaches, stomach issues, fatigue etc.) are also common. Trauma informed counselling and EMDR can allow you to process trauma and regain balance in your life.
Counselling can help couples who are struggling with communication issues. It can provide tools for couples to navigate and reduce conflict. Being able to talk openly about your relationship (including sexual concerns), while exploring and negotiating unmet needs, can allow you to move towards shared goals.
While we will all experience loss in our lives, it can be devastating to experience. Loss can appear in several forms; the death of a loved one, an end of a relationship, loss of health, loss of identity etc. Counselling provides a space to process loss and to grieve that which you have lost. Counselling allows clients opportunities to explore their life after loss and to discover a way forward.
